Tracing Tillingers: Aron Moshe Tillinger and his family pt. 2

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

(Continued from previous post)

Salomon Isaak Tillinger - Salomon Isaak was born on June 17, 1884 in Stanislwow. As previously mentioned on each birth record their maternal side is listed differently. In Salomon's case Hanna is listed as Henie and her parents as Abraham Messler and Ruchel.

I have not yet determined the date but at some point he moved to Vienna before January 1, 1915 when he married Amalie Altmann. This marriage however did not last because seven years later they divorced on May 10, 1922. This was due to him having an affair with another woman, Gisela Krampf and they had a son on Oscar Krampf, born March 1, 1921.

Sadly Salomon was deported to the Lodz Ghetto on May 1, 1942 and according to his grandson was murdered there in 1943.

Juda Tillinger - Juda, or Julius as he was known in the US, was born on April 1, 1886 in Stanislwow. On his birth record his mother is listed as Henzie Wax and her parents as Wolf Wax and Ruchel. The remaining four children were all born after Aron and Hanna's civil marriage. In my research I found that the name Juda or Julius was used by at least 5 different branches of Tillingers I have found. Additionally it's possible Judah is the name of Aron''s paternal grandfather.

From what I understand from his daughter, Julius was a bit of a trouble maker so his parents sent him to the US in 1905, arriving on May 29th, six months before his older sister Regina. While going back over some of my source documents I found Julius' actual passenger list, rather than his list of detainees. It seems when he arrived he listed that he was joining his brother I or J Tillinger, which does not make sense. However it was the address that piqued my interest. It is the same address that a Raphael Tillinger was living at whom I believe is his father's first cousin. I'll be going more into that in a later post.

At some point between 1910 and 1914 he moved to Providence, Rhode Island for a job opportunity and that is where he met his wife Ethel Lilker. Together they had five children - Herman Irving (1919-1992), Goldie (1920-1927), Gertrude (1926-2009), Esther (1927-1987) and a currently living individual.

Israel Wolf Tillinger - Israel Wolf was born June 3, 1889 in Stanislwow. Seeing as he is the first child born after his parents civil marriage Aron is listed as his legitimate father rather than in a note, however it does not list his parents. Additionally, as with the previous children his mother's side is listed differently with each child. His mother is listed as Henie Mesler and her parents as Abraham Ber Mesler and Ruchel.

In October of 2019 Gesher Galcia was able to give me some information I was looking for from their Jewish Medical Student Questionnaire. It revealed that Israel went Vienna University for Dental School and he graduated on May 10, 1920.

On June 20, 1924 Israel married Julia Silber from Zagwozdz. Together they had two children - Charlotte Lusia, born on February 2, 1927 and Aleksander born on June 12, 1928. Unfortunately this is where this branch's story ends as they were sent to and murdered in Belzec concentration camp in 1942.

Ernestyna Tillinger - Ernestyna (or Ester as she was also known) was born on May 31, 1890 in Stanislwow. Like with Israel, Aron is listed as her legitimate father. Hanna is listed as Henzie Wax and her parents as Wolf Wax and Ruchel. Of all seven children Ernestyna is the one I know the least about relative to the others. When I first received my Tillinger information she was listed as having a husband named Israel Tillinger and a daughter named Francia. At first I thought her marrying a man with the same last name might have been a mistake and for years I was searching for her marriage record. Even though I thought the Israel Tillinger was a mistake I kept in the back of my mind and even theorized which Israel I had found thanks to JRI-Poland it might be. Lo and behold in 2018 I found her marriage record and in fact she had married an Israel Chaim Tillinger from Kolomyya in 1919. Israel was the son of Mordechai Tillinger and Bruche Zeichner. It is my theory that Mordechai and Aron were 1st cousins.

As I mentioned previously Gesher Galicia has an Przmsyl Record Book identification project going on. A second piece of information this project yielded was the birth year for their daughter in 1920 listed as Fani. Unfortunately due to privacy restrictions the actual record is not available yet.

Like her brothers Israel and Salomon, this is where her story ends. While there is no record it is said she, Israel and Fani were all murdered in the Holocaust.
