I don’t speak about my father’s side much, mostly because that is his research, however his ancestors are my ancestors so here we go.
My oldest and first Jaron ancestor to come to America was my great-grandfather Kisel Yurovsky. Kisel was from the town of Zolotonosha in non-Galicia Ukraine. He was born around 1870 to Kusya and Ester. He arrived in the US on July 10, 1904 before the rest of his family. Sometime between 1910 and 1930 (based on the censuses from those years he began going by the name Karl Jaron. According to his death certificate he was a fruit dealer. While in Zolotonosha he was married to Maryasha Cheobotorev and they had two children – Ben and Nat. After she died he married Rose/Rizel Wernick and in while in Zolotonosha they had one child – Anna and after she arrived they had 3 children – Esther, Samuel, and Sophie (aka Sue). Samuel was my grandfather.
I was told our surname was changed to Jaron because it looked better on a sign.
I have also been told that we are supposedly related to Yakov Yurovsky – the man who was chief executioner of Czar Nicholas II and his family. This will the subject of future post
